In particular sedentary work conditions, lack of physical exercise and work related worries have led to lifestyle diseases like Hypertension, Type II Diabetes, Heart attack etc. In fact these have reached alarming proportions among Indians in the recent years. Even in such adverse conditions, a Physiotherapist provides a ray of hope for leading life of our prescription. She supplements the role of medical practitioners and that is why physiotherapy has emerged as an attractive career option. Physiotherapy or Physical therapy is a health care profession concerned with function and movement of human body parts with a view to maximize physical potential. Various Exercise techniques and Electro therapeutic modalities have been developed to promote, maintain and cater to physical, mental and psychosocial dimensions of health.
Physiotherapists work in a wide variety of Health settings to improve a broad range of Physical problems associated with different parts of body. In particular they treat Musculoskeletal (soft tissues, joints and bones), Neurological (Brain, Spinal cord and nerves), cardiothoracic (heart and lungs) and many other areas. A physiotherapist works on symptoms of physical conditions as also evaluates predisposing risk factors to prevent recurrence. In fact, they are in great demand and integral to specialized hospitals, nursing homes, clinics and rehabilitation centers. Now even health institutions, gymnasiums and defense medical establishments employ them. A physiotherapist is also needed in a school to take care of physically and mentally handicapped children, sport teams, etc.
As such, there are excellent employment and career prospects for Physiotherapists. Qualified Physiotherapists can work as freelancers, in addition to being a part of multi-disciplinary teams and ensure that patient’s mobility improves. They also have ample scope to establish their own clinics, provided they have adequate capital of their own.
A pre-requisite to such an enriching profession is to be a well trained professional. To meet this requirement in Jharkhand and East India, Usha Martin University is offering full-time Bachelor in Physiotherapy degree Admission Open BPT Programme. Its duration is four years spread over eight semesters. The Programme includes subjects like Anatomy, Physiology, theory and practice of body movements, Electrotherapy and manipulative procedures, study of medical and surgical conditions.

Students in third and final year of the program are given opportunities to go out in hospitals and apply their classroom learning in real life environment.
