The proactive measures initiated by the government of India in the light of Birla Ambani report regarding privatization of higher education, led to a fast paced development of opportunities for access to higher education through private and deemed universities.

Such positive policies led to creation of Usha Martin University in 2012 vide Usha Martin University, Jharkhand Act 2012. It has been recognised by the University Grants Commission under Sec. 2(f) of UGC Act 1956 as a self-financing Private University.

To carry its mandate of providing inclusive quality higher education in different fields for sustainable development of the society in the state of Jharkhand and be in conformity with the priorities of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of Jharkhand, Usha Martin University offers a wide range of programmes at UG and PG levels as of now. PhD programme shall be added in the process of expansion in due course of time. The University believes in nurturing and harnessing local talent to encourage social re-engineering and human capital building in the state. Starting with a total of 8-12 programmes targeted at the most urgent felt needs in the state, the UMU hopes to grow in times to come with a presence in most discipline areas.
